Bar Ends: How to Measure Handlebar Inner Diameter Correctly
With EDGECO Bar Ends, fit depends on the handlebar actually installed. The bar ends are designed for an inner diameter of 14 mm. The motorcycle model name alone is not enough to determine compatibility.
Inner diameter, not outer diameter
Measure the clear opening inside the handlebar tube—not the handlebar’s outer diameter or the diameter of the grip. If the opening is accessible, use the inside jaws of a suitable caliper. Measure carefully in more than one direction and check for any components or obstructions in the mounting area.
Before ordering
- Check that the handlebar ends are open and accessible.
- Measure the actual inner diameter. Existing inserts or weights may affect fitment.
- Check that both sides are prepared to fit.
- If the measurements differ, the ends are closed, or inserts are present, check with us first to find out which version is suitable.
Do not make any unverified modifications to the handlebar to take a measurement. If the handlebar ends are not prepared to fit, installation may not be tool-free.
What’s included and installation
The set includes two ASA bar ends. Installation is tool-free if the open handlebar ends are prepared to fit. Then check that they are secure and that the controls move freely, especially the throttle. If in doubt, ask before installation.
Will these fit a DR-Z400, KTM 690, or Husqvarna 701?
You can’t determine this reliably from the model name alone: an aftermarket handlebar may have different inner dimensions from the original one. So the same rule applies: measure the actual handlebar and check the mounting points.
